Position Overview: Assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.

  • Responsible for carrying out treatment program as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Responsible for functioning as a participating team member contributing to total patient care.
  • Responsible for the patient s personal care and environment during treatment.
  • Responsible for preparing patient and treatment area for therapy.
  • Responsible for performing standardized procedures as directed by the Physical Therapist when the patient s condition of anticipated response poses no problem.
  • Responsible for recognizing changes in the patient s condition which would require a change in the patient s program or cause the program to be halted and to bring these findings to the attention of the Physical Therapist.
  • Responsible for handling routine treatment of hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, cryotherapy, massage, traction, predetermined exercises, ambulation skills, and functional activities.
  • Responsible for assisting the Physical Therapist in tests, gait analysis and prosthetic checkout.
  • Responsible for verbal and written communication to the therapist who is responsible for the particular patient.
  • Responsible for assisting in home instruction to patient and family in regards to: exercise, ambulation, and transfers.
  • Responsible for assisting in clean-up of the Physical Therapy Department as needed.
  • Responsible for observing all necessary precautions for the proper care, use and safety of the patient and equipment.
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date on physical therapy techniques and procedures; participates in in-service and continuing education experience.
  • Responsible for attending patient care meetings as needed, according to the regulations of assigned agencies.
  • Responsible for making sure care being provided meets all Federal and local guidelines for providing skilled care.
  • Responsible for meeting productivity goal set by Blue Sky Therapy.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of services rendered according to billing protocol (Rehab Optima Software).
  • Responsible for giving lectures and serving as a consultant to medical and paramedical staff and students.
  • Responsible for ensuring patient rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including their rights to wage a complaint are well established and maintained at all times.
  • Responsible for review of complaints and grievances and making oral/written reports to the Rehab manager indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint(s) or grievance(s).
  • Responsible for abiding by the patient s decision whether or not to participate in treatment.
  • Responsible for informing the patient of consequences of not participating in prescribed therapy and documenting such actions in the patients record.
  • Responsible for allowing the patient to participate in the planning and scheduling of his/her treatment.

  • Responsible for making recommendations to the Nurse and/or attending Physician(s) for appropriate referrals to medical and paramedical personnel within the facility and community.
