Reporting into the VP, Portfolio Management for the America s, The Portfolio Director is responsible for creating and executing VWR International s strategy for growing the $350 million portfolio of instruments products in North America.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Develops a strategy to take market share of equipment and instruments products including yet not limited to further penetration of existing products, new supplier acquisition and product line expansion.
Establish, track, and report financial and operational metrics related to assigned portfolio and identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
Develop strategic marketing programs for portfolio by providing forward view of trends and emerging technologies
Builds cross-functional team of VWR associates and suppliers to execute the VWR strategy for growing the $350 million portfolio of instruments products in North America.
Drives collaboration with portfolio team and leadership to achieve revenue and profitability goals for portfolio.
Drives profitability of each of the product groups within the Product category and developing and executing strategies for improving that profitability.
Makes presentations to senior management regarding supplier consolidation program and the risks, costs and benefits of the proposed course(s) of action.
Develops the Private Label strategy within assigned Product category to include design, specifications, packaging, price points, and negotiations of costs, inventory investments, and returns.
Assesses the market of innovative technical developments by both suppliers and competitors and determining our customer s requirements for these innovations.
Implements supplier consolidation strategies to include changeover planning, discontinuance, super-cession, and communications internally and externally.
Attendance at industry trade shows to learn about recent scientific product developments.
Audits major suppliers manufacturing plants to include reviewing manufacturing capacity, quality programs, and opportunities for driving out costs from existing processes so they can deliver better value to VWR and our customers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
Masters degree in business, or equivalent experience preferred
At least ten years of equipment/instruments strategic marketing, sales or related experience required.
Five years leadership experience.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)
Financial skills to assess sales, profit, inventory investment, payment terms, return on sales, return on capital employed and EBITDA to improve VWR s financial performance.
Scientific skills to assess the technology and innovation of products and the application for our laboratory customers so that we can identify and negotiate with suppliers for those products that we anticipate that our customers will wish to purchase from VWR.
Strategic Marketing -
Communication skills ability to communicate effectively with a diverse number of consituities including Senior Leadership, Suppliers, Internal Customers and External Customers.
Exceptional analytical skills ability to interpret information pertaining on sales reports, quality reports, purchasing reports in order to assess trends and address specific areas for opportunities for improvement.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level.
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
